Academic Partnerships
Academic research students are a powerhouse for Anglian Water. We’re currently supporting more than 40 students working on different challenges across the business with industry experts.
Our students are tackling a breadth of issues facing the industry, with topics ranging from the Next Generation of Water Treatment Works to energy resilience for the water sector. By partnering with Anglian Water as part of their work, they get to apply their research to our unique and global industry challenges. We get to work with passionate, young, creative talent who bring fresh perspectives and skillsw hile our organisation receives cutting edge technologies and knowledge to improve the way we do things for our customers and the environment.

Imperial College London
Anglian Water and Imperial College have been working together to tackle today’s water challenges for the last 25 years. Imperial Colleges’ experts in water and wastewater have been carrying out research in collaboration with Anglian Water to try and help achieve their goals.
Imperial College also greatly benefits from the engagement with business-relevant research challenges driving our research. The access to company knowledge and resources the partnership allows for has been vital to our work.
The MSc programme in Environmental Technology profits from new ideas and contributions to teaching by Anglian Water staff while creating many new opportunities for the institution, its staff and students.
Collaboration on MSc projects has long been a key channel of interaction between Imperial College and Anglian Water. Working together allows students to achieve their MSc programme requirements for their final projects while working on finding novel solutions for current business challenges. This gives students exposure to a real work environment, the opportunity to work on exciting projects that will have an impact, while giving them the crucial first business experience setting them apart when it comes to finding their first job.

Cranfield University
Anglian Water (AW) and Cranfield University have had a long and successful relationship working together on water and wastewater research and development, interacting particularly closely with the Innovation team in AW. Over recent years, Cranfield have supported research activities for AW in drinking water through a strategic partnership, which has delivered important research and consultancy.
There is continued need for research in drinking water as we deal with the emerging threats facing our drinking water quality. This partnership supports AW in addressing these important issues facing drinking water quality in the region by working on a development of a strategic research programme based on the business and operational needs of AW.

University of East Anglia
Anglian Water and the University of East Anglia have been working together on key water and environmental challenges for the region. The main focus areas have been economics and social behavior, environmental research, and assessment monitoring. These efforts have been delivered through partnerships in projects, PhD studentships, MSc theses, and consultancy.
